← all workcase. sony. e-learning platform + worldwide app. nine years

one platform.
all of europe.
eight languages.

how a single e-learning platform and one mobile app served sony's people, partners and promoters across a continent, and stayed live, secure and current for nine years.

the problem

thousands of people, dozens of markets, one message.

sony needed its employees, contractors, affiliates and promoters across europe learning the same product story at the same time, in their own language, before the public did. the content was embargoed, the lead times were short, and the audience was spread over a continent with different stores, devices and expectations. a brochure site wouldn't do it. a learning platform would, if it could be trusted with product information nobody outside sony was allowed to see yet.

the call we made

launch by region. never all at once.

the easy version would have been one global switch. we built a staggered release instead: content and translations gated by market, so an embargoed launch in one country couldn't surface in another a day early. slower to ship, and the right trade. in nine years it never leaked.

the second call was to release the app under sony's own store accounts rather than ours. it meant more process on every update, but it meant the product was theirs, publicly and permanently. that's what a long engagement looks like from the client's side.

what shipped

platform, app, translations, reporting.

a web learning platform serving the whole of europe. a mobile app in eight languages, released worldwide on both stores. worldwide translation delivery managed end to end. a reporting api feeding sony's business intelligence tools. three full platform generations over the engagement, each one migrating the last without a gap in service.

and the unglamorous part that makes the rest possible: hosted by us, pen-tested on sony's schedule by their chosen third party, with every finding fixed and every periodic update delivered on time, for nine years.

beyond the brief

asked to build it. then asked what to build.

partway through, sony commissioned us to advise on its online e-learning strategy as a whole, not just the platform we were running. that's the shape of engagement we want: trusted enough to be asked what should exist, not just told what to make.
